ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Managing Partners and Club Leads:   Coach Michael and Coach Sherry

Description

The Club Leader(s) has the experience and knowledge equivalent to an intermediate Chess player, (expert preferred) or higher.  Primary responsibilities of a Club Leader are:

●       Lead and direct all club activities.  

●       Demonstrate and enforce club norms and desired behaviors.

●       Provide all logistical support and training needs.

●       Responsible for promotions, membership fees, awards, and team uniforms.

Team Head Coach:   Vacant

Description

The Head Coach has the experience and knowledge seen by an expert Chess player.  Primary responsibilities of the Head Coach are:

●       Prepare and lead our Chess athletes to improve their games and to compete at the highest level.

●       Coach less experienced players in the game.  Abiding by the ELM Tree of Mastery principles.

●       Act as representative of the club and embody the mission of the organization.

Club and Team Volunteers:   Vacant

Description

The Club and Team Volunteer has the experience and knowledge of interacting with young adults in a positive and productive manner.  Primary responsibilities of a Volunteer are:

●       Contribute to the development and nurturing of confidence and self-esteem in athletes.

●       Ensure athletes remain on track and make progress toward goals.

●       Assist with enforcing club norms and expectations.

●       Various administrative tasks (newsletter, communications, event assistance).

●       Assistance with coaching is welcomed if volunteer is comfortable in doing so.

Student Coach:     Vacant

Description

The Student Coach has the experience and knowledge seen by an intermediate Chess player or higher.  Primary responsibilities of the Student Coach are:

●       Coach less experienced players in the game.  Abiding by the ELM Tree of Mastery principles.

●       Act as an extension of the Coach.

●       Cultivate confidence and self-esteem in athletes.

●       Identify areas for athlete’s improvement with the game and achieve improvements through homework style assignments.

Benefits

●       Waived or reduced club fees.

●       Paid training with the Positive Coaching Alliance and the Chess Federation to increase effectiveness as a student coach and in future endeavors.

●       Letter of recommendation for Boy & Girl Scouts, Young Marines, and University, that attest to all of your hard work and volunteerism.

●       Leadership experience acting as team leader during field trips.

●       Letter of appreciation / certificate from the State Senator of Virginia.
